Cradle of Filth...are they glam?

Okay, was having a discussion with a non-glam loving friend. I think that their image is glam, he doesn't. Of course, their music is worlds away from glam, but the look, imo, is rather reminescent of alice cooper. Anybody else?

no. cradle of filth's image is not glam. saying that cradle of filth's image is glam would be saying that %80 of gothic, %40 of black metal and %30 of industrial bands (all rough estimates) have glam images. you can also argue the opposite, does that fact that la guns or alley cat scratch dress in black and wear makeup give them a gothic image? if you say yes then how could cradle of filth's image be glam? if you say no then why not? does glam hold some trademark rights on images?

makeup and leather/pvc does not constitute a glam image. glam is short for glamorous and there is nothing glamorous about cradle of filth.

Cradle is commercialized Black Metal. There is nothing Glam about them. If there was, in looks, then hundreds of Black Metal bands would have to start attracting Glammies.

I never saw the look Alice carried as to being "Glam". His sound much of the time was, as it was straight ahead RnR, with more of the snorry attitude. But looks wise, nah. Just like I never thought of KISS as to looking "Glam". Actually, they looked at their most Glam when they did "Lick It Up".

I think that the difference is american glam verses european glam. Euro glam is more like Slade, Sweet, Mott, while American glam is more like Shout-era Motley, Kiss, and Alice Cooper. Just a thought.

Yes, I still think their image is glam. But then, would y'all consider Undercover Slut's image to be glam? What about Electrakill?

Bill and Carl, they wouldn't attract glammies as many glam fans are more into music than image and, as I said, their music isn't glam oriented.

Undercover Slut? no, i wouldn't say they are glam, no more then London After Midnight or SPF 1000 are.

Electrakill? no, i wouldn't say they are glam but to be honest i don't really think they had an overall band image at all. they were more like two guys posing together for pictures then a 'band' with a common theme

i do agree with the cotton one about Euro and US glam being two different things, though the other side of the pond did give us Tigertailz and Wrathchild.

oh and cradle of filth's image is not glam and to prove it, no one and i mean NO ONE can claim to be, or be called glam, and have facial hair. case closed =)

But Bill, Undercover Slut was on the pink side of Pink and Black and Electrakill was on Sourpuss. I think that the dude from spinal tap had facial hair. Same with King Diamond. HA! Glam one and all. hahaha

I'm a little bothered by all the talk about "glam image" here. Glam is a movement, an attitude, a way of viewing the world. You can not wear a drop of makeup and be VERY glam, and you can wear a ton of make up and not be glam at all...

Cradle of Filth are black metal. Their makeup, while very cool, is black metal makeup, not glam makeup. I see where Lycan is coming from, but I have to disagree...

I would say that both Phil Manzanera and Roy Wood from the early 1970s were glam, and they both had facial hair. So did Noddy Holder, that sort of joined sideboards. In the late 1970s, "glam" and "heavy metal" were synonymous in the minds of the media, hence the two idiots Jones and Cook aka Professionals in their little SOUNDS diatribe against what they called "heavy metal" referring to bands that wore "medallions." They were referring to Early Girl, Early Lep, and Early Japan, all bands that were considered both "glam" and "metal."

As for now, any two-bit band that wears eyeliner calls itself "glam." Pathetic.
